Itinerary
-
Day 1: Cusco -Machu Picchu Full Day with Vistadome Train
Pre-tour briefing: We will meet with you at your hotel in Cusco the night before your 1-day tour to Machu Picchu on the Vistadome train to review the itinerary. You can take advantage of this opportunity to ask any final questions and make any last-minute preparations. The meeting will take place at 5:00 p.m. the night before the tour begins. If you are unable to attend at that time, please let us know so we can arrange another time.
The journey there and logistics
The one-day tour to Machu Picchu begins very early with pickup at your hotel (in Cusco or the Sacred Valley) to take you to the train station. From there, you will board the PeruRail Vistadome train for a scenic 1.5-hour ride to Aguas Calientes, passing through Andean landscapes and cloud forest along the Urubamba River. Upon arrival, you will take a 25-minute bus ride to the entrance of the sanctuary, where it is a strict requirement to present your original passport in physical format in order to enter.
The Machu Picchu Experience
Once inside the complex, your private guide will first take you to the classic viewpoint so you can capture the famous panoramic photographs of the citadel. This is followed by a two-hour guided tour of the most important areas, designed to teach you about Inca architecture, history, and culture.
It should be noted that, as this is a one-day tour and due to current regulations, the itinerary does not allow for additional hikes to the Sun Gate, the Inca Bridge, Huayna Picchu, or Machu Picchu Mountain.Return to Cusco
At the end of the tour of the citadel, you will return to the town of Aguas Calientes, where you will have free time for lunch and to explore the area. In the afternoon, you will board the Vistadome train again to Ollantaytambo or Poroy (schedules vary depending on availability at the time of booking). Upon arrival at the train station, private transportation will be waiting to take you directly to your hotel.
Vistadome Class Train
The highlight of this tour is the trip aboard the Vistadome train, whose carriages feature large glass windows on the sides and roof, offering unparalleled immersive views and first-class service with leather seats, air conditioning, and Andean cultural entertainment. It is important to note that if you are traveling during the rainy season (January to April), the train route will operate exclusively on the section between Ollantaytambo and Aguas Calientes for operational reasons.
