Located approximately 76 kilometers northwest of the city of Cusco<\/a>, the district of Limatambo -also known as the Limatambo Valley- stands out for its production of Hass avocado destined for international markets. According to an official government report, 211 tons of Hass avocado have been certified and are mainly destined for the Dutch market. The region currently has 18 certified production centers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to its agricultural importance, Limatambo offers tourist attractions such as the Tarawasi Archeological Complex, the Condor Viewpoint in Chonta, and access to routes to the Salkantay snow-capped mountain<\/strong>. Although the latter does not belong directly to the district, most of the excursions to Humantay <\/strong>and Salkantay pass through Limatambo<\/strong>, making it a key point for travelers heading to these emblematic mountains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Complejo arqueol\u00f3gico de Tarawasi<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It is a group of buildings of Inca origin that is located in the district of Limatambo, province of Anta, department of Cusco. It is located 72 km from the city of Cusco, on the left bank of the Colorado River. It has an approximate area of 2 hectares and stands out for its large ceremonial platform with carved stone walls and trapezoidal niches. According to the historical tradition, this place was ordered to be built by the Inca Pachacutec with the objective of being an administrative and religious center on his way to Chinchaysuyo. It is also believed that it was a tambo or shelter for travelers and a place for acclimatization of plants.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

2. Chonta Condor Viewpoint<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It is a natural tourist attraction that offers the unique opportunity to observe the impressive flight of the Andean condor, the largest flying bird in the world and symbol of the Andes. The viewpoint is located in the rural community of Chonta, belonging to the district of Limatambo<\/strong>, 98 km northeast of Cusco. From the viewpoint you can appreciate a spectacular view of the Apurimac River canyon, one of the deepest in Peru, home to about 80 condors that fly between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm. To get to the viewpoint you have to walk for an hour from the ticket office along a path surrounded by nature and Andean landscapes. The viewpoint has three platforms from which you can observe the condors with binoculars or cameras.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
